Living and Working in Denmark

Karen Mackenzie, Cadbury Schweppes

“Practical examples made it real for me, giving me key areas to focus in on to maximise success and minimise impact due to cultural dilemmas.”

Often described as a country with a high standard of living, a modern economy and an efficient welfare system, Denmark is a small but prosperous country. The capital, Copenhagen, is known for its efficient public and regional transport, commitment to sustainable economic development to make the capital cleaner and greener, unique housing design and world class cuisine.  Denmark also offers its citizens a rich cultural life and other unique features such as the “free town” Christiania and beautiful natural landscapes to explore. As a strategically positioned EU member, bordering Germany and the rest of Scandinavia, Denmark is an ideal location for anyone developing business in Scandinavia.

A better understanding and appreciation of the Danish way of life and its unique set of cultural rules and behaviours can ease the stress and frustration of relocating to Denmark.  Communicaid’s Living & Working in Denmark courses are designed to respond to the needs of international assignees by providing practical information and advice on the various aspects of living and working in Denmark. These Living & Working in Denmark courses will provide you with a foundational understanding of the cultural elements that shape Danish business and social etiquette inside and outside of the workplace.

Your Living and Working in Denmark trainer will be assigned to you following the results of your diagnostic consultancy according to your objectives and areas of focus. Detailed below is a sample profile of a member of our Cultural Awareness Training team.

TB - Cultural Awareness Trainer Denmark

TB has over thirty years’ commercial experience working in marketing and advertising and in export selling. Over the last 30 years TB’s experience has taken him through a range of sectors and markets, partly in marketing and advertising but mainly in export selling. His clients have included Procter & Gamble, McCann Erickson and Gillette and he has worked throughout South East Asia, Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.

In 1985, TB set up his own export marketing consultancy in Scotland and since then has worked across most sectors in the US and Northern Europe. His main focus has been on the North and Baltic Seas.  As an Export Promoter for that region from 1997 until June 2001 he met more than 600 distributors and purchasing managers across virtually every sector.

Since July 2001 he has been International Tourism Advisor for overseas tourism in the North East of England.  He has maintained his close contact with Denmark and he still travels there very regularly, leading trade missions, organising promotional events and creating a number of reciprocal trade agreements.
