Bahasa Indonesia– Facts about the Indonesian language

Indonesian, or Bahasa Indonesia as it is known to Indonesian speakers, is the official language of Indonesia.  As well as Indonesia, it is spoken in East Timor.  In Indonesia alone, it is used by 23 million people with further populations of Indonesian speakers distributed in locations across South-east Asia, the Netherlands and the USA.   It is estimated that the total number of Bahasa Indonesia speakers are in excess of 100 million if numbers of second language speakers are also included.

Indonesian is written using the Latin alphabet.
