| Cathy Wellings from Communicaid working with Chloe Cox, Bridge Academy Head Girl |
Communicaid is delighted to be working in partnership with Bridge Academy and Inspire! the Education Business Partnership for the London Borough of Hackney
to provide local students with the opportunity to gain real life work experience and develop their practical office skills.
Communicaid, a leading culture and communication consultancy, already has a well-established intern programme for international students but has been looking for the right opportunity to add value to the local community. Located in the City of London, Communicaid is committed to supporting local students in neighbouring boroughs to develop their skills and experience and to stimulate their interest in language, communication and culture. Our experience has shown that these skills are vital to school leavers and graduates embarking on careers with City institutions or other global organisations. Recruiters also value candidates with excellent communication and foreign language skills. Spending two weeks in Communicaid’s busy multilingual head office gives young students exposure to a variety of office functions as well as insights into the training and consultancy sector.

| Cathy, Chloe and Natalia discussing Chloe’s work placement |
The Bridge Academy is a Hackney school that prides itself on developing partnerships with business and other academic institutions and offers an unparalleled commitment to work related learning scheme. Natalia Dawkins, Community and Relationships Manager at the Bridge Academy says, ‘Our vision and commitment at the Bridge Academy is that all of our students get the best possible education so that they reach their full potential. Students in year 10 and then in year 12 participate in a two week quality work placement with local organisations.’
The most recent student to spend time at Communicaid was Chloe Cox, the current head girl at Bridge. Chloe found it quite a learning curve to be in an office environment from 9am until 5pm every day but she enjoyed the experience much more than she had anticipated. Chloe worked on a variety of skills during her placement with Communicaid including email communication, Spanish language and use of IT applications. One of the most important things she learnt was how important it is to create a professional first impression. Chloe commented, ‘I found my new colleagues very friendly and welcoming but I learnt that adults don’t communicate with each other in the same way that students do and that I needed to be more confident and polite.’
Cathy Wellings from Communicaid says, ‘It was a great pleasure to have Chloe with us and to see her grow in confidence during the two weeks she was with us. Her cheerful manner and willingness to help made it very easy to involve her in projects and for her to fit into the team. Even though she was only with us for two weeks she has made a lasting impression on the team here and was a delight to have onboard.’
