Catherine Devitt, Organisational Development, HBOS (Halifax-Bank of Scotland)

"The discussions and role-plays really brought the cultural differences to life."

The importance of developing global competence: Organisations are becoming increasingly reliant on international markets and talent pools. These days, it is not uncommon for a team or division to be located in several global locations, to be made up of a number of different nationalities and to work with an equally diverse, multicultural client base.

With all the benefits that globalisation brings, it also presents significant challenges to the way in which we work and communicate. An approach or style that is taken in one part of the world doesn’t necessarily apply or work in another. These differences can easily lead to miscommunication, frustration, lost time and money.

In order for international business to succeed, it is imperative that the employees involved have the necessary skills and flexibility to adapt. In other words, a high level of global competence will enable them to work effectively and professionally across cultures.

Communicaid’s Developing Global Competence programme will provide delegates with a series of easily applicable tips and strategies which will help to eliminate the financial risks and pitfalls that cross-cultural working presents.
