Of Zimbabwean nationality, IS possesses over 10 years’ experience of delivering Shona courses, working with all levels of learners. He has worked both in Zimbabwe and the UK as a Shona language trainer, a college lecturer and Shona language examiner. Before moving to the UK, IS was the Department Head of a Zimbabwean secondary school.
IS also previously volunteered in Zimbabwe, working with missionaries and their families to become conversant in the Shona language.

Shona is the official language of Zimbabwe. It is estimated that approximately 7 million people speak Shona. Outside of Zimbabwe, populations of Shona speakers can be found in Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana.
Shona belongs to the Bantu group of the Niger-Congo family of languages. There are many Shona dialects. The four major dialects are considered to be: Karanga, Zezuru, Manyika and Korekore. Modern Shona is based on the dialect spoken by the Karanga people of Masvingo Province.
Shona is written using the Latin alphabet. It is also a tonal language which is not represented in its written form.
